North and South Museums of RI
This is an exploring blog. Bringing you a small sampling of some interesting museums found right here in Little Rhody. We think you will enjoy what was discovered.
First, let’s visit Woonsocket ! Did you even know there is a veteran’s museum there ? This is what we found.
VETERAN’S MEMORIAL MUSEUM
78 EARL STREET
WOONSOCKET, RHODE ISLAND
Your veteran museum guides here are friendly and eager to share their knowledge. No fee is required, but donations are always welcome. Museum hours are Tuesdays & Saturdays, 10AM-4PM.
It’s incredibly important to preserve the history of our Native Americans. This museum in southern Rhode Island has captured the flavor and history in a small structure with a large educational history. They do provide tours for a small fee. A gift shop is on site as well. They do charge a minimal entrance fee. It’s very much worthwhile.
TOMAQUAG MUSEUM
390A SUMMIT ROAD
WYOMING, RHODE ISLAND
Now, let’s wander to Westerly !
LIVING SHARKS MUSUEM
47 HIGH STREET
WESTERLY, RHODE ISLAND
Come be a part of the first ever Shark Film Fest happening this Saturday, September 10th ! Make some history !
This here is the Godzilla Shark ! To quote the original Facebook post: “One of the most fascinating shark fossils discovered within the last decade is the "Godzilla Shark" of New Mexico. Found in 2013 in the Manzano Mountains, the 300 million-year-old specimen is the most complete shark fossil of the Ctenacanth family. The ancient species was 7 feet long, weighed 200 pounds, and had 12 rows of teeth. The name Godzilla came from the two-and-a-half-foot long spines on the back of the shark!”
This is just one of the many things you will learn. We were fascinated by our visits to these museums. We never stop learning. How fortunate we are to find these treasured museums in our tiny state of Rhode Island ! Happy exploring !
