Audubon Society: Fort Wildlife Refuge

On a warm fall November day, we found ourselves close to home to explore a wilderness hike tucked away in plain sight ! We had driven past and seen this wood sign many times for years. But today was the day to take that turn down the dirt road. We were so glad we did. Three hours later, we were energized by the wilderness experience here in North Smithfield, RI. This was a reminder to us to always keep your eyes peeled for an unexpected adventure ! You’ll need a good pair of walking shoes for this one. The rollator managed just fine, although there were areas of difficulty because of patches of tree roots. But it was not terribly difficult, just a bit of a challenge. This is not a lazy walk. Ready… Set… Go !
This walk left us uplifted and energized ! There was a small corner towards the end we chose not to explore. You might want to see what you find when you reach that split. We do encourage you to take the turn down this dirt road and enjoy every minute you are there. Happy Thanksgiving to one and all !
